Is Dawn Sourcing the right fit for your brand?

We are a good fit for brands producing their own designs who want someone on the ground in China checking the order in person. We are not the right partner for print-on-demand, dropshipping or relabelled blank stock.

A good fit

  • You have a design, a tech pack, a sketch or a product you want matched.
  • You reorder styles and need every run to match the approved sample.
  • You have had an order go wrong in China and want it checked on site this time.
  • You want one price delivered to your warehouse, or FOB to your own forwarder.

Not a fit

  • Blank stock with a label swapped, print-on-demand or dropshipping.
  • Finding the cheapest possible unit price with no inspection.

Not sure? Send us your product — we will say plainly whether we are the right partner.

How an order runs, from spec to your warehouse

An order goes from first message to shipment in five steps. A sample usually takes about 2 weeks, and bulk production about one month after you approve the final sample set; sea freight to your country comes on top.

  1. A numbered card of fabric options, each swatch labelled for quoting

    1 · Spec and fabric

Send a tech pack, sketch, photos or a sample to match. We find the fabric and trims and tell you what is possible before you spend money.

  2. Four colorways of the same trouser style laid side by side

    2 · Costing and sample

You approve the unit price, then a sample from about $30 (RMB 200). About 3 days if fabric and trims are in stock; usually about 2 weeks when they have to be sourced.

  3. A spec sheet held up and read against a pile of finished garments

    3 · Size-and-color set

After a 30% deposit we make a final sample in every size and color. That set becomes the standard the bulk is checked against.

  4. An operator working at a sewing station with cut panels stacked beside her

    4 · Production, visited

About one month. We visit the factory at least three times — before, during and at the end of the run — and fix problems on the line.

  5. Staff folding, bagging and checking finished garments before dispatch

    5 · Checked, then shipped

Goods come to our Yiwu warehouse. Every piece is checked and counted, you pay the balance, and it ships DDP or FOB. Goods leave China only after full payment.

What quality control is included in every order?

Every order includes checks of incoming fabric, in-line checks during production, a final check at the factory, and a check of every piece in our Yiwu warehouse before dispatch. All of it is inside the unit price — including independent third-party inspection when your order needs it. There is no separate QC bill.

What being on the floor changes

A drawstring waistband held open and checked by hand against the other colorways of the same style

Fixed mid-production

The buyer changed the waistband after production had started.

Normally the spec is locked once the order is placed. This was a trim that had not been sewn in yet. We were on the floor, checked where the line had actually got to, and had it changed with no extra cost and no delay. It does not always work; it works when someone knows where your order is on the line.

A garment measured against the buyer's spec sheet during production in China

Rejected, then remade

A stretch-pants run failed on every colorway. It did not ship.

At the in-line check, pocket seams ran the wrong way on all four colors, left and right legs came out at different lengths, and two sizes had come off the line identical. We rejected the run, had it re-produced, re-inspected it a week later, and only then released it. Read the inspection →

Questions buyers ask first

How much does it cost to have clothing made in China, delivered to the US?

It depends on the fabric, the construction and your quantity, so we price each style rather than publish a list. Send a product link or photos and we reply with two prices per piece: FOB China and DDP to your door with freight and import duty included.

What is the difference between FOB and DDP, and which should a small brand choose?

FOB means you pay for the goods and your own forwarder takes over at the Chinese port. DDP is one price per piece that includes freight, import duty and port fees, and the cartons arrive at your address. A brand without its own forwarder usually finds DDP simplest.

What is the minimum order for custom clothing?

It depends on the fabric, colors and sizes. Factories run best when they cut your own fabric in volume, so send us the style and a rough quantity and we will tell you the minimum for that product before you pay for anything.

Can I get a price if I only have a product link or a photo?

Yes. Send the link or photos and, if you know it, how thick the fabric is. We check it internally and reply with FOB and DDP prices per piece. It costs nothing.

Do I need a tech pack to start?

No. Photos, a sketch or a sample you want matched are enough to start. We help you turn them into a spec the factory can work to. You can also build one yourself with our free Tech Pack Builder, built on 20,000+ garment patterns.

How long do sampling and bulk production take?

A sample takes about 3 days when the fabric and trims are in stock, and usually about 2 weeks when they have to be sourced. Bulk production takes about one month after you approve the final size-and-color set. Sea freight to your country comes on top.

How do you check quality, and what happens if pieces fail?

We check incoming fabric, check the line during production, do a final check at the factory, and check and count every piece in our Yiwu warehouse before dispatch. A lot that fails does not ship: it is re-made and checked again first. Inspection is included in the unit price.

How do payments work, and when do my goods leave China?

You pay for the sample first. After you approve it, you pay a 30% deposit and we make the full size-and-color set, then bulk. You pay the balance after we have checked every piece and confirmed the final count; goods leave China only after full payment.

Are you a factory or a sourcing agent, and how do you charge?

We are a production agent in Yiwu. We work with partner factories chosen for each product and manage fabric, samples, production, inspection and shipping. You get one all-in unit price: goods, our management, inspection, and with DDP the freight and import duty. No commission, no retainer, no separate QC bill.

Have you made clothing for US brands, and how do I check a manufacturer before paying?

Yes — merchandise for a well-known K-pop act, and we are currently producing socks and pajamas for US brands. Client names stay private; most of our current volume is for Korean brands. Before paying anyone, ask for the business license and a sample first. Our license is on our About page, and you pay a deposit only after you approve the sample.
